What is your teaching philosophy?
"My goal is to make learning engaging each and every day. I want my students to find a passion in business, but more importantly, prepare for their future career, whatever that might be. Even in year 21, I continue to find innovative ways to get students working on strong communication and interpersonal skills that will serve them throughout life!"
Can you tell us about a memorable student?
"This is almost impossible, as there are so many. But, one student stands out that represents my goal as a teacher. I met this student her freshman year when she joined DECA. She was a bright young woman, but really struggled to communicate her ideas in a presentation. We role-played every sample role-play I had over her freshman, sophomore, and junior years. She never gave up and worked so hard. When she won first place at the State DECA Conference her senior year, it was the best moment!"
What is your favorite part of being a teacher?
"I love helping students get excited about learning new concepts and watching them accomplish things they never thought possible."
What is the biggest challenge you face as a teacher?
"Student disengagement and apathy towards learning. The texting, gaming, and social media trends continue to make teaching harder than it was in the past."
