Life Outside of School
I LOVE BEING ACTIVE OUTSIDE WITH FAMILY, WHETHER THAT'S HIKING, GOING TO THE PARK, OR BEING PART OF MY KIDS' ACTIVITIES. I ALSO LOVE GETTING A GOOD CUP OF COFFEE WITH A FRIEND!
What is your teaching philosophy?
"As a business teacher, I believe my job goes above and beyond course material. I seek to find tangible ways to impact student learning beyond my classroom. I often hear students say that information they are learning in other courses doesn’t have a direct impact on their future. Even though as educators we know this isn’t true, I work hard to craft my lessons and projects so that a student can never say that about what I teach. My goal is always for them to walk away with tangible skills. This ranges from interpersonal skills from group interactions to public speaking opportunities. All these matter in the education process but also for life. I work hard so that students gain confidence and walk away from my class with real-world skills."
Can you tell us about a memorable student?
"It is so hard to choose my most memorable student. I have had many for all 4 years of high school. Those students are probably some of my favorites because I get to know them well. I really do care about all my students."
What is your favorite part of being a teacher?
"I love being a teacher. Getting to be an encouragement or force of positivity in the life of a student is something I am passionate about. I also love watching students get excited about the material I am teaching. Whenever they are able to grasp the information and see the connection to their lives, it makes me excited."
What is the biggest challenge you face as a teacher?
"As an elective teacher, I usually have classes with a wide array of students. I often have 9th-12th graders all in one class. Meeting the needs of a diverse group of students is very challenging."
